A GIANT PACKAGE ARRIVED FOR SWEET LEIALOHA!
She received a care package from Doug and the team at I’d Rather Be With My Dog. She had a great time playing with her new tennis balls and adored the healthy treats. We are so thankful for her new found joy and playful puppy energy. She’s healing and we couldn’t ask for more!
As promised, here is the fun video of our sweet girl that is loved by nations!
AFTER 20 DAYS
It is hard to believe just 20 days ago we rescued sweet Leialoha. If you saw her today, most would not be able to recognize the “Puppy found cut and buried alive in the sand.” She was heartbroken, hurt, burnt, cut and in pain when she was found. Today Leialoha is playful, happy, smiling, loving life and healing from all her injuries.
Due to amazing medical care, the foster’s love, community support and awesome team member: Leialoha is healing wonderful.
Mahalo to everyone for their love. Mahalo to Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services. Mahalo to foster mom Amanda. Mahalo to all those who donated and sent her supplies. Most of all, Mahalo Ke AKUA
“Leialoha has gone from being the most tired thing to a very active pup. If she is awake, she wants all of your attention or she whines for you.” – Foster mom Amanda
“Leialoha’s bloodwork is almost completely normal (bloodwork has been done every 2-3 days). Platelets and white blood cells are finally normal. She is still a bit anemic, but that is all. Leialoha healing so well!” – Dr. Kelly Dowdall-Garberson from Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services
We are so excited to share these great reports with all of you. We know Leialoha has touched each of your hearts and we are so grateful for all the prayers, love and support everyone has sent her. For those who are new to the story, Leialoha was buried in the sand, cut and had burns over her body. She is still recovering but each milestone is a celebration! You can read more about her journey on our Facebook page. Mahalo for everything. Mahalo Ke AKUA!
She’s a cuddler! Leialoha is warming up to the idea that not all humans will hurt her. She is loving on her foster mom and resting so she will heal up quick. 🤗
One week in her foster home and she is already doing so much better. Fosters make all the difference in the world. Many of the animals we take in are dogs who are emaciated, sickly or abused. These dogs rely on their loving fosters to show them the gentle side of the human race.
The police do have an active investigation open looking for the man who hurt Leialoha. We will post any updates received.
Please continue to send healing prayers to Leialoha as she recovers.

HER FIRST TAIL WAG – CAUGHT ON CAMERA!
Litte Leialoha is still a bit hesitant and shy, given all she’s gone through. But the improvements are consistent and just breathtaking. She wagged her tail and is coming out of her shell more each and every day!
This beautiful baby is in a wonderful foster home. She has received adoption inquiries from all around the world. What a blessing to see that so many people love and care for this precious girl. We are very happy to say she has a wonderful family from Hawai’i (Big Island) interested in giving her a forever home once she’s healing up.
We are truly glad that she was saved in time. She received wonderful veterinary care through Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services. Her foster ohana is outstanding. The prayers she has been receiving are helping her blossom. Mahalo Ke AKUA!
WHY FOSTERING IS SO IMPORTANT
“Earlier this week, I was scrolling FB, while the girls were getting haircuts and saw that there was a dog on the westside of Oahu that had been buried in the sand and been cut on her leg with a machete. She was badly sunburned, covered in sores, and missing most of her fur. My heart was broken and I knew she needed us to foster her. Leialoha has come so far since Tuesday night. Initially, she would only leave her kennel to go to the bathroom. Last night, she came out, while we had friends over to see what was for dinner and has been liking being under the coffee table. She has a long way to go, but the worst is over. Say aloha to Leia!” – Foster mom Amanda
Mahalo nui to Amanda and her ohana. They’ve fostered many animals for us before. They even adopted a foster dog from the homeless camp. Now they are providing amazing and lifesaving care to sweet Leialoha.

Our beautiful Leialoha was given her first bath today, poor girl was bleeding from every inch of her body. Her foster ohana are the kindest people and we are so happy she is safe with them while she heals up. Mahalo Foster mom Amanda and ohana, you are all so appreciated. After her bath she went for a little news interview. What a star ⭐️ Now she is back at home enjoying her burgers from Raw Dog Hawaii. Mahalo to Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services for caring for this sweet girl medically. Mahalo to all those who prayed for her. Mahalo to all those who donated to her medical fund! We are so grateful for you all! Mahalo Ke AKUA!
LEIALOHA NEEDS YOU
This beautiful girl was found by one of our team members.
Someone had just buried her and they had a machete so who knows what was next. This precious girl is incredibly swollen, sunburned and missing 90% of her fur. Our entire team rushed out to pick her up and she is now at Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services recovering care with Dr. Kelly.
If you can donate to her medical care please do. Visit pawsofhawaii.org/donate.
